Christmas card rating system. I know. It's terrible.

My friend Amanda and I are soul sisters in so many ways.  We both have a deep love for Massachusetts, big guys from Buena Park, and taking pictures of our kids.  We also have have a love (dare I say obsession?) for Christmas cards; choosing the right format/background, getting the perfect picture (nearly impossible with children), to-letter or not-to-letter, etc.  She saw this on a blog that she follows, thought of me, and sent it along.  I knew I must post this on mine because I so could have written this myself.  Actually, I really wish I had.  I know.  It's terrible.  I'm thinking that some of you can feel me on this, though. Right?  Right??

  1. LOL. I'm totally the same way-hence I appreciate that your whole family is always on the card. I'm not a big fan of just the kids when it's the parents that I'm friends with and would like to see also.

Do you put as much effort into FINDING the perfect card to send? It's very time-consuming for me as I 1) need to find the perfect price point; 2) find a card that reflects my personality and/or just has a fun design; and 3) not too big as I enclose a letter and don't want a lot of open white space in the card.

  2. I have relations that send ridiculously long, overly detailed descriptions of their children's yearly activities. I've never met Little Susie and Big Tim-Tom so I'm not very interested in the minute details of their little league season performance or for how many hours their ice-skating coach has them practicing the triple sow cow, as impressive as it might be. Cut the details down to: Little Susie suffered a compound fracture on her plant foot but started kicking ass in karate when she realized it only takes one good foot to do the "crane technique" or Tim took a liner off the forehead but on the brightside he was cast as the unicorn in the school play. Don't leave out the good stuff, but keep it short and sweet!

  3. How could you leave out that Tim was the unicorn in the school play? I say mystical creatures gives you extra points!!!

I had almost talked myself out of doing a card this year (SHOCK) but one conversation with Ashley and I'm back on the hunt. I'm currently searching etsy for a good digital design. I don't have the energy to design my own this year. Now to get the family cooperative and figure out a picture.

  4. I'm with you and Amanda we need to confer because I already have about 6 designs picked out on Etsy. I think "Using the same card as your friend: -5"
