Pac Maaaan!

Today is Pac Man's 30th birthday!  Atari kicked ass and although I killed many hours playing Nintendo on Brandon's bedroom floor, Atari still is my favorite.  I look at the kids' Wii and I almost feel sorry for them.  I mean, who wants interactive, HD quality video games?  They miss out on Space Invaders, Frogger, and the best, Pac Man.  Oh, well.  Poor kids.

If you go to GOOGLE's homepage today, their logo is an interactive Pac Man game.  Instead of hitting "search", hit "insert coin" and just use your arrow pad to play!  Whichever Google employee game up with that for today's logo should be given a $100,000 bonus.

What are you waiting for?  Click here and go play!

Big girl

Drew performed at school tonight.  It was preschool graduation but she was in Jr. K this year and she's attending the same school next year so to her this was a night to sing with her class more than anything.  Lauren stayed home with our sitter because it was passed her bedtime.  Chris was at a swiftwater training class.  It was a super fun night for just William, Drew, and me.  Drew did amazingly well for one who is typically shy if she thinks others are watching.  She sang a couple songs, recited a few verses, and did a whole lot of waving to William.  Here are a couple pictures:

The three before we left.  Lauren wanted none of it.

Totally feelin' it.  How come she's the only one?

I was absent that day

Chris has always said that if something should ever happen to him, I have his permission to remarry immediately.  He thinks my remarrying is going to be essential to my survival.

I am not an idiot by any means but if anything requires technical thinking whatsoever, I play dead pretty much because I have no idea what the hell is going on.  One night we were taking a walk and William pointed to the telephone wires overhead and asked me what the were.  I told him.  He said, "What do they do?"  I hemmed and hawed and Chris did not come to my rescue.  Screw him.  With great confidence I said, "They are magic."  That is my explanation for most science based things.  In just a couple more years I can pull the ol' teacher trick when I don't know the answer.  "You know what, William?  That's a terrific question.  You find the answer on your own and come report back and I'll give you an extra cookie in your lunch." or something like that.  Thank God for Google.  He'll be our very good friend in this house when daddy is at the firehouse and the kids are doing science homework.  I must have been absent the day they taught science.

Lately there has been a great interest in lava in our house.  William turns everything into fireball shooter and all the fireballs he shoots at Drew have lava tails.  We spent quite a bit of time on YouTube watching volcanos and lava flowing.  I'm thrilled they have such interests.  I have to admit, though, that I sat there sweating a little that someone was going to say, "Mommy, why exactly does it do that?"  Since I can't really say, "Well, God is pissed so he spews liquid fire into the air" I think it's clearly time I brush up on the basics.  In the meantime, I'm totally going to use this explanation.  Then we'll make one which will back up my explanation and they'll think I'm a freaking science genius.

4 things

I have such skin issues. Rosacea, eczema, dry skin. I know, it's all a lovely visual. Lotion companies LOVE me because I'm am suckered into buying their products with the slightest mention of "heals" or "extreme dry skin" on the label. On my recent visit to my dermatologist, I was whining about said issues and how I just can't find anything that is a sufficient moisturizer and how my hands are in water all day and blah, blah, blah. She suggested this. It's a GD miracle, I tell you. It's over the counter and a little more pricey than most other lotions but I'm telling you, if you have issues like I do it's worth every single penny. You must try it.

I'm pale and it sucks.  This is subtle, NOT orange at all, and smells fine.  Tan fat is a teeny tiny less obvious than white fat.  It's the truth.  If this can help take 0.5 pounds off of my appearance I'm ALL OVER IT.

Breaking Bad is the best show on TV. It's on AMC and if you haven't seen it, I encourage you to DVR it and check it out. It has fantastic acting and a story line I just can't get enough of. You can read a summary of it here.

I don't drink my calories because let's be honest, if I'm going to put 150 calories in my body I'm going to chew them and enjoy them.  Juices don't do it for me.  THIS, however, is good.  Like, gooooood good.  If you are one who drinks your calories, put this on your menu.

Have any things you can recommend for me?  I love trying new things.

Expensive mishap

Does this look like a fridge that could provide breakfast for three hungry children?  And a hungry mommmy?  Nope.  Apparently the fridge door was left open just enough so that the light was on inside... all night.  Not only were things just not cold, they were hot.  See that big light in there?  That was cooking our food all night long.  I can't even begin to tell you what's been lost.  I think the greatest loss is the fabulous pesto dinner that Chris made last night.  That usually lasts us the whole week for leftovers or lunches, or both!  I salvaged somethings I think will be fine not having been cold all night but for the most part it's a loss.

Instead of hanging at home and playing with Lauren while the big kids are at school, we're off to the grocery store and Costco to restock.  I just went big grocery shopping on Saturday so this sucks.  This is going to cost a fortune.  Here's just part of my list:

This incident doesn't compare to last summer when on vacation our freezer died and we came home to a 4-day old warm freezer.  The greatest tragedy in that was that I had 30 bags of breastmilk in there that were ruined.  It still aches to even think about that.

My new nighttime routine will be to check doors, windows, set alarms, and check the fridge.

Off to shop.  I'm hungry.

*On a completely unrelated note, if you look at the stat counter at the very bottom you may see that you're the 10,000th visitor to this site!  Sorry, no prize.  But pretty awesome still!

30 minutes I'll never get back

I've mentioned before that I love mindless television.  That includes most of the reality shows.  I draw the line at the Bachelor, but most of the others I enjoy.  I don't watch TV all that often anymore and when I do it's at night once I've showered and I can lay my carcass on the couch for an hour before I move it to bed for the night.  Putting it that way I realize that mindless television has replaced books.  So sad.  Anyway, I came across this horrible show last night.  It's called Four Weddings on TLC.  Have you seen it?  OMG.  It's just awful.  I don't even appreciate the premise.  It's 4 women, all of whom are getting married.  They attend each other's weddings and then rate them.  The bride with the highest score wins a free honeymoon.  So pretty much what you have at your wedding are three terribly bitchy and judgemental guests that you don't know very well who are hoping you EFF up big time somewhere in your planning so they can snatch the free honeymoon.  Isn't that awful?  I'm all into bitchy drama (LOVE all the Real Housewives of...) but this is beyond that.  I think because somethings should just be held sacred.  Your children, your morning coffee, and for God's sake, your wedding.

I have also mentioned before that I am rather narrow minded when it comes to somethings.  I think somethings should definitely be done a certain way.  But to sit at someone else's wedding and nitpick crosses the line.  I would never even do that.

So I want to say, "Oh, you totally need to watch it", even though I'm bashing it as a horrible show.  Here's a link to the preview of it, just click here.  You can spend 2 minutes of your life and cast your judgement rather than wasting a whole 30 minutes of your life that you'll never get back like I did last night.

And even though I said I would never do that,  I would totally take points off for having a pig on the buffet table.  Just sayin'.
